Man suspected in Ann Arbor bank robbery arrested in Jackson County

By AnnArbor.com Staff

A bank robbery suspect fleeing Ann Arbor on Tuesday afternoon was arrested in Blackman Township in Jackson county, the Jackson Citizen-Patriot reported.

About 3 p.m., Michigan State Police troopers from the Jackson post and the First District Hometown Security Team stopped the suspect’s car as it left I-94 at Elm Road, according to a news release from the state police. A 33-year-old man was arrested without incident after the traffic stop.

Ann Arbor police believe the man, whose name has not been released, robbed a Bank of America branch about 2:30 p.m. near the Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor. The robber fled the bank in a car with an Illinois license plate, the release said. Witnesses at the scene provided Ann Arbor police with a detailed description of the car that was then broadcast to local law enforcement agencies.

A Chelsea Police Department officer saw a car matching the description westbound on I-94. The officer followed the car as it entered Jackson County. State police troopers positioned themselves along the highway as the car approached.

When the car left the highway, troopers were assisted by officers from the Jackson Police Department, Blackman Township Department of Public Safety and the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division.

Ann Arbor police and the FBI are investigating the robbery.

@ Jeff, not surprising that we see a report from a Jackson newspaper before we see it here. No doubt the police have not told AA.com about it yet for AA.com to "report" on it. Unfortunately it doesn't seem that any crime section contributors bother to monitor the local police channels like they do in New York or as even the paparazzi do. I know at least Ed V is well aware of a free site to listen to a streaming police scanner of the area... On another note, the Briarwood banks sure are popular...wonder when they'll start putting up bullet resistant glass partitions? Be safe out there, 1*

I didn't see anything about the robbery here. Doesn't a bank robbery warrant a news story in and of itself, with details? Like, was the robber armed? How much was taken? Did the robber say anything? WWWWW&H.
