Man accused in apartment break-in to stand trial
The man accused of breaking into a man’s home just hours after he was discovered dead and stealing prescription medication is expected to stand trial in October.
Andrew Vannortwick was arrested in June on charges of home invasion and conspiracy to commit home invasion for allegedly breaking into the apartment of Norman Wilson, who had been found dead by his mother just hours before. His trial will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 17 in front of Washtenaw County Trial Court Judge David Swartz.
Vannortwich was not in custody when he appeared in court Thursday.
Carolyn Armbruster, Wilson’s mother, found Wilson dead in his apartment at about 1 p.m. Jun. 8 after she had grown concerned because she hadn’t heard from him in two days.
At about 5:30 p.m. that day, shortly after Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office deputies left the downtown Dexter apartment, Armbruster and family members came back to the apartment to collect some of Wilson’s belongings. She said family members saw a woman climbing out of a window and onto a fire escape.
Police then arrested Vannortwick and Rachel Shoemaker and recovered some prescription medication allegedly stolen from Wilson. Armbruster said Wilson had known Vannortwick and Schomaker for more than a year, and Armbruster met Vannortwick on a number of occasions.
Armbruster said Vannortwick had called Wilson’s apartment shortly after she had discovered him in the apartment and she informed Vannortwick of her son’s death. Police said there were no signs of foul play in Wilson’s death. Wilson was disabled due to serious injuries suffered in a car crash in 2005, his mother said.

This will be an interesting trial. Something smells fishy, but the smell will come out in the wash after the trial.
