Man who fled scene after striking 3-year-old child with vehicle in Superior Township takes plea
An unlicensed driver who backed his vehicle over a 3-year-old Superior Township girl on her scooter and drove off was convicted of two felonies under a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Freddell Anderson, 19, pleaded guilty to one count of felony fleeing and eluding and one count of failing to stop at an injury accident, court records show.
Authorities say his vehicle struck the girl’s scooter in the 9000 block of MacArthur Boulevard at about 8:40 p.m. on June 13. While responding to the scene, a Washtenaw County sheriff’s deputy saw Anderson’s vehicle fleeing the area and tried to stop it.
Anderson was arrested after leading deputies on a brief chase. Police said the girl was treated at the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
Prosecutors agreed to drop one count of attempted resisting and obstructing at sentencing as part of the deal, records show.
Anderson also will not be charged as a habitual offender under a sentencing agreement with Circuit Judge Archie Brown. Further details of the sentencing agreement were not included in court records.
Anderson remains in custody on $10,000 bond.

Why wasn't he sentenced under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act? Or will be be?

Fortunately, the little girl is alright, but for this 19 year old to barely avoid being charged as an habitual offender is really unfortunate. It's also frightening to think that he will be back out on the streets in what will, no doubt, be a short period of time.

It infuriates me that they let this jackwagon take a plea deal. Though this child wasn't seriously injured, I just don't get why people who commit horrible crimes are offered deals in the first place.

Don't suppose they prohibited owning or driving a vehicle one of the conditions...probably not. Not that it'd make a diference to this guy anyway, driving with no license and all..
