Drunken man with gasoline can threatens people, Ann Arbor police say

A man was arrested this morning after he approached the pavilion outside the First Baptist Church with a gasoline can and threatened to burn people, an Ann Arbor police report said.

Officers responded at about 1 a.m. to the church on East Huron Street and saw the man, who fled on a bicycle, according to the report.

Police caught up with him in the 600 block of Catherine Street and recovered a gas container, which had some gasoline inside, the report said.

The 45-year-old Ypsilanti Township man, who police say was heavily intoxicated, was cited for having an open intoxicant. Police say they found an open bottle of liquor in his possession.

He is under investigation for intent to commit arson, police said. No other details were available this morning.

Did he have a match to back up his threat?

I admit I didn't go back and look, but is this the same church that caught fire during the OSU game?

If he threatened bodily harm to any one person, isn't that assault and will be charged with that? Was he taken into custody? I, for one, do not want a crazy drunk with a can of gas free to roam around town!

Huh, bet I know him, unfortunately. And the pavillion can be a disaster, as well.

By the way, what was the man's name and what did he look like? I'd like to be on the lookout for him, and do what I can to avoid him.
