Manchester High School Top Scholars

Manchester High School will hold its 2013 graduation ceremonies Sunday, June 2, 2 p.m. at the high school. The class has 96 graduates.

Maya Benedict
Parents: Michael Benedict and Kathy Benedict
Activities and Awards: Maya has been involved in many activities during high school that she really enjoyed! For the past three years she’s been lucky enough to play varsity field hockey for the Washtenaw Whippets. Maya served as president of the MHS Key Club, as well as the co-president of student government and secretary of National Honor Society. Recently she was also involved in the Drama Club as an officer, and in the past two musicals.
Plans After Graduation: Maya will attend Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and plans to major in International Studies and Economics.

Bethany Hicken
Parents: Allen and Alisa Hicken
Activities and Awards: Bethany was a member of National Honor Society. She was the Bulletin Editor for Key Club. Bethany was also a member of Drama Club for three years, and was significantly featured. She was names Student of the Month for November. Bethany enjoys singing and photography. She has entered several of her photos in the local fair and won multiple times. Bethany is also the class president for her church’s Young Women Organization, and co-president for her church’s Seminary Class.
Plans After Graduation: Bethany plans to attend Brigham Young University. Her field of study is still undecided.

Natalie Horning
Parents: Jeff and Lynda Horning
Activities and Awards: Through school, Natalie was a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, FFA, German Club, and Art Club. She was also involved with Drama Club, performing in two plays and three musicals. This past year, she represented MHS at Girls’ State. In addition, she was named February student of the month. Natalie participated in both Sideline Cheerleading and Competitive Cheerleading her freshman and sophomore years. To continue, she was on the Track team her sophomore and senior years. Outside of school, Natalie was a member of Manchester Swine Club and Manchester Lamb Club. Furthermore, Natalie is very active in 4-H, which she has been a part of for ten years. Lastly, Natalie has given many volunteer hours to helping out at her church, serving food at a soup kitchen, and various other service activities.
Plans After Graduation: Natalie will be attending Michigan State University Honors College, and is thinking of pursuing a teaching degree.

Joseph Mazur
Parents: Mark and Suzy Mazur
Activities and Awards: Throughout high school Joe participated in many activities and received many awards. He ran track and cross country all four years. Joe received the scholar athlete award for both sports all four years, while getting the varsity award for cross country all four years and three years for track. In addition, Joe was a member of the National Honor Society, Drama Club, Michigan Boys' State, Key Club, and The Bowtie Society. He received the Magna Cum Laude award, AP scholar award, and the Presidential Education Award.
Plans After Graduation: Joe will be attending the University of Michigan in the upcoming fall to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Scott Wagner
Parents: Bill and Marlene Wagner
Activities and Awards: Scott has been an active member of Manchester’s Drama Club for four years, and was president of the club his senior year. He also participates in the high school band as the trumpet section leader. As a captain of the Quiz Bowl team, Scott has led Manchester to their first district title. Manchester will also be competing in the State and National Quiz Bowl tournaments. Scott has volunteered with multiple NHS activities, including bell ringing for the Salvation Army and reading to elementary school children. Plans After Graduation: Scott will be attending the College of Wooster and plans to double-major in history and theatre.
