aanews missed this event .. [my earlier posting of this evnet 'dipsappeared' somehowe] and aanews -could- [???] cover itas well: .. memorial day is not all parades and parties. .. [from @jarhead] This Sunday, starting at 1800 hrs (6pm) on 29may2011 at the VietNam Vetereans Memorial, we will be retiring old and damaged Flags in a ceremony called "The Watchfire". .. The VietNam Veterans Memorial is at the Ypsilanti Township Hall grounds on Huron River drive off of Whitaker Rd. .. @lillie: Watchfires were lit after battles in older times to guide warriors who had been separated in battle back to their camp. Our Watchfire is symbolic in that it is a watchfire for our POW/MIAs. Please join us and bring your flags. .. see you there ... and the aanews -really- (c/sh)ould cover this event as well, eh? .. oh, TOM PERKINS, bring the foe flag, pls. and your camera. quite appropriate for the memorial day activities and remembrances

It is a Memorial Day Processional which continues the time-honored tradition of honoring America's Fallen. It is not a parade!

Other than the pancake breakfast, all the events at the Yankee Air Museum are free of charge. This is a great event for families and for those wishing to remember those that gave their lives for their country.

Correction: Due to the road construction on Cross Street, the 2011 route for the parade in YPSILANTI is as follows: The parade starts on Huron St and travels north to Michigan Avenue. East on Michigan Ave, stopping on the bridge for a ceremony before continuing east to River St. North on River Street to Highland Cemetery.

There is also a great museum I guess you could call it in FRANKENMUTH , it has military displays from all our services . A lot from Michigan service mens familes. I don't remember the address off hand but once you get close to BONNERS CHRISTMAS store their are siggns giving you directions. It would be well worth the drive up on Memorial day weekend or any time for that matter .
