Michigan, northern Ohio doctors to share electronic records in effort to reduce errors

In a move expected to limit medical errors and redundant tests, doctors at practices across Michigan and northern Ohio will begin to share electronic records.
That means physicians at UMHS-affiliated practices will have access to background in an GLHIE network, whose partners include Sparrow Health System, Hayes Green Beach Hospital, the Ingham County Health Department, and others, according to a UMHS news story.
It could be especially helpful in scenarios when patients can’t communicate their medical history. Doctors treating a non-UMHS, unconscious victim of a car crash in the emergency department may be able to access the patient’s entire medical record, for email@example.com or 734-623-2528.
