By AnnArbor.com Staff

The Opta Minerals Co. plant in Milan was damaged by a fire that was discovered shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday.

Milan Police were dispatched to the area near the plant at 345 E. Main after receiving a call of smoke in the area.

Arriving officers confirmed a structure fire in the building, and called for Milan firefighters. They were assisted by Pittsfield Township firefighters, while Dundee crews covered the Milan station.

Crews were at the building until about 4 a.m., police said. There were no injuries.

A damage estimate was not available.

The facility, formerly known as BIMAC, manufactures steelmaking products. It's part of a global company headquartered in Ontario.
