Milan High School Top Scholars

Milan High School will hold its 2013 graduation ceremonies 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2, in the high school gymnasium. The class includes 209 plus 5 exchange students getting Certificates of Attendance.

Parents: Jamila and Pete Alfaro
Activities and Awards: Captain of the cross country and track teams. Played flute in the band and is a member of the National Honor Society. She received All-League, All-Region and Academic All-State honors for cross country and individual qualifier for the state meet as well as All-Region runner for the two-mile in track.
Plans After Graduation: Undecided where to attend college. Plans to study pharmacy with a minor in chemistry.

Grace Bartley
Parents: David Bartley and Debbie Egner
Activities and Awards: Quiz Bowl captain, Language Club president, first chair clarinet, varsity track and field, and props mistress. Member of the National Honor Society, All-League Quiz Bowl team, Girls State delegate, International Thespian Society presidential scholar, and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards delegate.
Plans After Graduation: Undecided where to attend college. Plans to study International Relations, Library Science and Spanish.

Activities and Awards: Football and track, student council and fourth-grade tutor. AP scholar and a member of the National Honor Society.
Plans After Graduation: University of michigan to study accounting.

Lauren Cook
Parents: Jane and Mark Cook
Activities and Awards: National Honor Society vice president, swim team captain, student representative for the Milan School Board, softball team, and CERT member. She received six All-State awards for swimming and is a three-time state champion, as well as a three-time scholar athlete. She also was voted Most Valuable Player for swimming. .
Plans After Graduation: Undecided where to attend college. Plans to study health sciences to become a physical therapist.

Parents: Douglas & Helen Darling
Activities and Awards: Monroe County 4-H, Milan varsity soccer captain, Future Farmers of America (FFA) vice president, varsity swim and dive team, guitarist in his band "New Blues Street Project." Huron League All-Academic 1st team, Performing Arts State Award with 4-H, Michigan State FFA Degree, participated in the youth showcase at an international Blues contest in Memphis, Tenn., placed 19th in States for diving.
Plans After Graduation: Michigan State University to become a Physicst.

Activities and Awards: Men's tennis team captain and most valuable player. Captain of bowling team, manager for women's tennis team and math tutor.

Plans After Graduation: Kettering University in Flint to study mechanical engineering with a specialty in aerospace and a minor in electrical engineering
