Motorists to encounter lane closures on US-23 this weekend

By Cindy Heflin

Motorists on US-23 in Livingston County may have to deal with traffic backups as road construction crews close lanes for pavement repairs tonight and Saturday night.

One lane will be closed on southbound US-23 between Lee and Silver Lake roads from 8 tonight until 8 a.m. Saturday, the Michigan Department of Transportation says.

A single lane also will be closed on northbound US-23 between Silver Lake and Lee roads from 8 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday.

Or you could just learn to use a roundabout. It's not that hard. 1) Look left. Those already in the roundabout have right of way. 2) Stay in your lane while in the roundabout. This means choosing the right lane when you're using it to turn right, and the left lane when you're using it to turn left. You can generally use either lane when going straight. The signs as you approach the roundabout are fairly clear. 3) Do not treat the roundabout as a four-way stop. It is a yield/merge system, not a stopping system. 4) If you find yourself continually going in circles, you're doing something wrong.
