National Weather Service issues warning that high temps, winds could cause grass fires

By AnnArbor.com Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a "fire weather watch" for the region - including Washtenaw County - from Friday afternoon through Friday evening.

The weather service is warning residents not to burn anything on their properties tomorrow because of the potential of fires resulting from the expected high temperatures and wind.

Friday's predicted high topping 80 degrees - coupled with winds of 20 mph and relative humidity levels dipping into the mid-20s - makes the potential for fires greater, the weather service said.

Any burning is discouraged.

Yikes, I think @iamwrite, @youareright lol. Actual evidence perhaps of our potential to have fires, here, in a grass fire from today... http://www.annarbor.com/news/superior-township-grass-fire-extinguished/ I'm noticing that the mud in my area is less um muddy, to put it scientifically;-)

Yes, and with high heat, household sponges dry out and become flammable.

@iamwrite blinds us with it, lol. I don't want to get into climate-talk;-) but it sure can throw a person off their science even to imagine 'fire alerts' issued for the midwest on april 2nd, yeesh, that's california weather-service talkin'! Being a city person I can't imagine wanting to get out first hot day and burn things on my property, neither, but I suppose it's important for us all to be warned about such hazards. I hope everyone enjoys the warm breeze tomorrow!
