No arrests made near Michigan Stadium today, police say

By Amalie Nash

Despite protests around Michigan Stadium surrounding President Barack Obama's visit, police made no arrests and said there were no issues.

University of Michigan police took no enforcement action inside or outside the stadium, said spokeswoman Diane Brown. Ann Arbor Police Sgt. Tom Hickey said city police haven't dealt with any issues surrounding commencement, and he wasn't aware of any arrests.

“It was a well-behaved crowd,” Hickey said. “It helps when the parents are in town.”

About 45 people including Tea Party members upset about the administration's polices, abortion foes and a few anti-war protesters demonstrated outside the stadium before the ceremony got under way.

A few hundred people gathered at Frisinger Park at 9 a.m. for a rally to support immigration rights and later marched to the stadium.

Medical personnel treated 32 people in the stadium, and one person was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Brown said.

The Ann Arbor Fire Department also reported no incidents related to commencement.

Today's crowd was estimated at 80,000 to 85,000 people.

Did the banner actually say "abortation?"

Thanks, racer. I was quite disappointed by the lack of misspelled signs at the Tea Party "rally" (if 8 people constitute a rally). The misspelled banner restores my "faith".

Fuuny, in my Pittsfield Township neighbor well after the President left, at 2:30 there was a plane flying with a banner that said something about no Oama healthcare for abortation. Yes, the banner had Obama's name spelled wrong and if those who paid to have the banner flown for Obama to see, he was well gone by then.

All of you law enforcement people that were involved yesterday - good job. You can relax some now. You were looking pretty tense yesterday!

See, the tea partiers aren't the trouble-makers the media often paints them to be. (No, I'm not part of the movement).

Less problems than a football Saturday all the way around. Way to go everyone!

@ Amalie Nash... curious, weather seems cool... reason for the medical treatment of 32 people... or is it too early yet for details?
