Northfield Township police remind residents to lock car doors, remove valuables

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Northfield Township police are warning residents to always make sure their car doors are locked following a series of recent thefts from vehicles.

Police say the car break-ins have occurred throughout the township, although a total number was not available today.

In addition to locking vehicles, police say it's important that people remove the valuables inside, such as laptops, cameras, purses, briefcases, GPS units and shopping bags or packages.

"Most thefts are crimes of opportunity, and you will limit the opportunity if the thief does not view anything to take," police said in a release.

Someone stole all my beer from my cooler in Whitmore Lake last night when I walked away from it to watch the fire works... crime of opportunity indeed :(
