Northfield Township police warn residents about series of burglaries over the past 24 hours
Northfield Township police are warning residents about a rash of burglaries in the past 24 hours.
Police say residents should be on alert after three break-ins, one attempted break-in and one complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the last day.
The incidents occurred in the 800 block of Five Mile Road, 8500 block of Spencer Road, 9500 block of Spencer Road, 6600 block of Eight Mile and 2400 block of North Territorial Road.
On Eight Mile Road, a caller said a Red Jeep was parked in her driveway, and someone was knocking at the door for several minutes while three other men waited in the vehicle, a township police alert issued tonight said. The woman didn't open the door and called police, the alert said.
The men were gone when officers arrived. They discovered a sliding glass door was ajar, but entry wasn't gained, the alert said. The vehicle was described as a maroon “Compass” model Jeep, possibly with Ohio plates.
In the 800 block of Five Mile Road, a witness reported seeing a two-tone white/beige minivan with daytime running lights leaving the victim's residence around the time of the burglary there, the alert said. It was last seen heading west on Five Mile from the Nollar Road area.
Anyone with information on the vehicles is asked to call the Northfield Township Police Department at (734) 449-8900.
No further information on the break-ins was immediately available.
Police urged residents to report suspicious people or vehicles and to keep their homes and vehicles locked. Officers also said residents should mark valuable items with their driver's license number to identify them if they're stolen, and police will loan an engraver to anyone who needs one.

Just another outstanding reason to visit your local animal shelter and adopt a dog!! If a burglar hears a dog barking they will most likely think twice about breaking into your home! I have a Boerboel "south african mastiff" They were bred for three reason 1) very protective over family and children, 2) Keep the lions away while children play outside, 3) hunt rabbit for for the whole family so they have dinner. Boerboels are truly "King of the Cage" Ever been to the zoo and hear a lion roar when it's feeding time? A Boerboel will growl exactly the same way and just as deep. Guaranteed no one will mess with you or your property. I have a 2 yr old son that constantly harasses the dog ( I do correct my son when he is mean) you know how 2 yr olds can be...never once has that dog growled at him. Hooch will just lay down and let my son do whatever he wants to him. There are many other working breeds to consider. Please go to you local animal shelters and save one of these dogs from being put to sleep. Crime is on the rise and we need to defend ourselves every way possible.
