Nursing home discovers gun hidden in piano

By Cindy Heflin

The staff at Whitehall Healthcare Center in Pittsfield Township made a surprising discovery inside a piano at the nursing home last week: an unloaded gun.

The gun was found Friday in a case inside the piano, which was donated to the nursing home years ago, said Gordy Schick, Pittsfield Township deputy police chief. Police suspect someone hid the Ruger .22-caliber pistol in the piano long ago before it was donated to the nursing home, 3370 East Morgan Road, Schick said.

Pittsfield Township police found no registered owner on file for the gun in the state’s database and are attempting to check its serial number against Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives records, Schick said.

Geez, when I think about adding to my gun collection, I never think of buying used pianos - but now I will. ;-)

No love for Ruger? I recall a story about another pistol in which the manufacturer (Glock) was named 5 times in the short story if we include the headline. Why we even had a link to Glock's website in that story. http://www.annarbor.com/news/ypsilanti/glock-pistol-reported-stolen-from-car-in-ypsilanti-township/

Craig, you probably already know: The Glock company put a large sum into advertising their product when the Glock pistol was "introduced" in the U.S. Journalists - not being concerned with details like that - naturally follow on by use of sensationalist stories. So Glock pistols are either "famous" or "infamous" depending on the viewpoint of readers. Bill Ruger, before he died, was an earlier example of heavy self promotion (name brand promotion). Anyway: I like your ironic comment. :-)

This is actually pretty handy, I have known a number of piano players that should have been shot the minute the started playing!
