Officials investigate gas leak at Dream Nite Club
Authorities investigated a gas leak at the Dream Nite Club Tuesday evening.

Authorities from the Ann Arbor Police Department and Ann Arbor Fire Department investigated a gas leak at the Dream Nite Club on North Fourth Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
According to Sgt. Craig Flocken with the AAPD, someone was walking by and smelled gas.
“Apparently, something got loose,” said Flocken, who described the gas leak as “run-of-the-mill.”
MichCon was being called onto the scene to shut the gas off at the unoccupied nightclub, which has been at the center of a legal battle in the past few months. The club was evicted from the location May 9.
There was no connection between the gas leak and the recent news surrounding Dream Nite Club, Flocken said.

Who on the staff, that wrote this piece, has never lived in Ann Arbor? North 4th Avenue? Dream Nite Club was evicted....how about a vacant building on South 4th Avenue had a gas leak?

From what I see on the cities web site that building is not coded for a fire supresion systm....other words no.sprinklers which in my opion I dont know how that Club got away with not having sprinklers installed,.the Fire Marshall should of demanded that.

Now you are leaping to conclusions. We have other laws that insure you DO have a sprinkler system and the club indeed had them. Please read the article instead of browsing pictures. This was a GAS leak, not a fire.

That old building is so out of code, it really does need to be inspected by the building.departmant. You ever look on the roof the ac units have wires hanging out of them, now there is a gas leak the building department must get in quick to insure the building is up to code.

The building was probably grandfathered in without the suppression system. You'll also notice that building doesn't have a wheelchair accessible front door. Whomever leases/purchases that building is going to have to invest a lot of money to bring it to current code.

Cuts in staffing prevent this. If people would allow the taxes to rise a few bucks maybe there would be a few more staff to investigate and act on these incidents.

"There was no connection between the gas leak and the recent news surrounding Dream Nite Club, Flocken said." how is he so sure about that?

My wife and I had just parked in the adjacent parking structure and were planning a little nightwalk before catching Caleb Hawley at The Ark. We saw the fire trucks and police cars and wondered what was happening. I made a mental note to check AnnArbor.com after the show and, sure enough, here's the story. Thank you!

The address is incorrect. It is on South Fourth Avenue, not North.

How fortunate that this didn't explode and hurt anyone. I'm also glad it didn't lead to a fire and big insurance pay out.

I would think the title should be changed to "unoccupied building that formerly housed Dream Night Club"

Why would A2.com refer to this site as "Drean Nite Club" when they were evicted three weeks ago? This building belongs to Mr Hauptman.

I think you're confusing this building with the ex-The Fifth Quarter on S. Fifth Avenue.
