One candidate has withdrawn from the search for the new Washtenaw Community College president and will be replaced by another candidate ahead of public forums later this week.

Ann Valentine, president of the Minnesota State Community and Technical College, withdrew her name from consideration. Rose Bellanca will replace her as a finalist and join the remaining two candidates, Thom Baynum and jean Goodnow.

Goodnow is the president of Delta College in Michigan, where she has served since 2005. She will meet the public in a forum at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Bellanca is the provost and chief operating officer of Northwood University in Florida and a former president of St. Clair Community College. She will meet the public in a forum at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Baynum is the president of Coastal Bend College in Texas, a position he’s held since 2007. He will meet the public in a forum at 3 p.m. Monday.

All three public forums will be held in Room 101/103 of the Morris Lawrence Building.

This is the second round of candidates that the WCC Presidential Search Advisory committee has brought to the public. The WCC Board of Trustees interviewed Donald Doucette, senior vice president and provost of Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis; Irene Kovala, vice president for academic and student affairs at Minneapolis Technical and Community College in Minnesota; and Vicki Martin, executive vice president and provost of Milwaukee Area Technical College in Wisconsin in March.

The board ultimately decided not to make a job offer after that round of interviews.

Current president Larry Whitworth announced in September that he would retire after more than a decade as president.
