Emergency crews were called to a rollover accident on westbound M-14 at Barton Drive just before 6:30 p.m. Monday, a dispatcher confirmed.

There was one-car rolled over in the freeway, the dispatcher said.

Joyce Williams from Huron Valley Ambulance said paramedics transported one patient to the University of Michigan Hospital in stable condition.

The accident caused significant traffic back-ups. The Ann Arbor Township Fire Department were still working to clear the scene at 7 p.m.

There was another one-car accident reported on Ford Road near Gotfredson around 6:30 p.m., Superior Township fire officials said. The driver was temporarily pinned in, but was quickly freed and didn't suffer any major injuries, officials said. That accident did close Ford Road while wreckers cleared the vehicle.

The posted speed is 65 not 70 .People need to use common sense (its not so common) when traffic is merging and exiting. We are not in a NASCAR race.

I have traveled this route to and from work for 30 years, the speed limit is not the problem, the problem is the drivers who do not watch for cars coming on from Barton Dr and Main Street. Cars coming on from Main St often do not care that cars on M 14 are signaling to exit a Barton Drive. Instead they stay in Barton Dr. exit lane far too long at a slow rate of speed before merging on to M 14 East. On the West bound side cars want to make it to the head of the line so they speed up and then cut in making the cars that slowed down for the Main Street or Barton Dr exit slam on their brakes as other cars are coming down the hill. As far as I am concern the speed limit is fine it is the rude and poor drivers.

justcurious, I think the Barton interchange north of the bridge should be an exit only but not an entrance on to M 14, but every time there has been talk of closing this interchange people who use it get very up-set. rbamboozled, I avoid Ann Arbor on the Weekends I only drive this route M-F.

Consider that many drivers are coming from sporting events, the UM Health Center or any other of a huge variety of places in Ann Arbor that attract only occasional visitors. They drive north on Main and they're suddenly facing an unfamiliar highway merge that is unlike most others in the state. I've been using that interchange for over 20 years, but I am well aware that many of my fellow drivers are unaccustomed to it and I drive accordingly.

I agree with what you have said....but the real problem is that the Barton interchange north of the bridge should not be there.

The speed limit was increased Along this stretch a few years ago. That was a big mistake. Very few people drive under the posted speed limit of 70 miles per hour. My opinion is this section needs to have the speed limit reduced.

Very dangerous exit & entrance ramps on M-14 there. Very poor highway design. MDOT should be ashamed.

If people would not try to enter M14 too close to the car in front they would be better served.

NEVER should have increased the speed limit through that stretch.

Part of the problem is that the people entering the freeway there are going at such a slow speed that it is impossible to merge with the fast traffic well. There is a lot going on just before that interchange also...people entering from Main St., the bridge, people jokeying to get off at Barton in the middle of the bridge. All in all it has always been a boondoggle. There used to be a large home made sign there at the curve asking people who had accidents to call a certain phone number. I'm not sure if it is still there.

The plan was to re-do it when Huron Parkway got extended (through Black Pond Woods) to just north of there, but the voters didn't go for it.

However it is NOT poorly marked. That exit has PLENTY of warning as to the correct speed one should be going when exiting it.

I expect to find out that someone was trying to get off at main while someone was trying to get on. Both in a big yank!

I expect the vehicle to be identified later as a SUV.

It was a compact car, as indicated by the picture one of our photographers captured at the scene.
