One lane of US-23 in Livingston County closed after semi spills box of screws and nails

By Cindy Heflin

One lane of southbound US-23 at Nine Mile Road in Livingston County is closed after a semi-trailer spilled a box of screws and nails on the highway, Sgt. Mark Thompson of the Brighton post of the Michigan State Police said.

Thompson said the trailer came unhitched from the truck hauling it about 12:30 p.m., and a box fell out and spilled its contents on the highway.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is cleaning up the spill, Thompson said at 1:05 p.m. He anticipated the right lane of the freeway would remain closed for another 15 to 30 minutes.

The incident also caused a small grass fire, but it was contained and extinguished, he said.
