Ann Arbor's Maple Road roundabout is dangerously in disrepair
I noticed in the newspaper that the Michigan Department of Transportation is working with Wayne State University on a survey about roundabouts.
The Maple Road traffic circles are, without a doubt, horribly maintained. Three huge light posts have been destroyed and not replaced. The roundabout traffic signs are broken and in disrepair. The sewer drains under the overpass are chock-full of debris and causing blockage. The grass is now 4 feet tall and growing and one cannot see the cars coming and going in either direction. If and when they do mow the grass, they leave it as a hay field.
Last year in talking with the Washtenaw County Road Commission, they said they were working on getting this resolved.
How much longer do we have to wait before a serious accident happens? If this is any indication of beautifying our highways -- you have missed the boat. Look around at other roundabouts, particularly Brighton and take some notes.
This has gone on way too long.

Correction to previous comment:... who pass by neglected areas...

With all of the budget cuts, maybe people who pass by neglected could make arrangements with the city to tend the area voluntarily. Community flower gardens would make a wonderful statement at that entrance to the city and it wouldn't cost taxpayers any money. Just a suggestion. I would donate a few plants. There's an adopt-the-road program, so why not ask if you can adopt the circle?
