Chicago canal must be closed to save Great Lakes from invasive Asian Carp
As a resident in the Ann Arbor/Dexter area I would like to express my concern about the Asian Carp Invasion in the Great Lakes. My wife and I are property owners on Drummond Island where we operated a resort since 1997.
We believe we can speak first hand about the steady increase of invasive species and the rapid decline in the fish population. The latest threat of Asian Carp could very well be the final blow that will doom fishing in the Great Lakes.
We feel the canal in Chicago needs to closed immediately. The short-term effects of closing the Chicago Canal will not come close to the long-term effects of the decline of the Great Lakes. We feel President Obama needs to make a decision to close the canal immediately.
