"There were a couple of occasions where things got out of hand and our folks responded. We've had bands playing in backyards at late hours of the night, we've had people sleeping in the streets, we've had other unmentionable activities in our parks and, in addition, the rampages on Main Street." - City Administrator Roger Fraser, on the recently held Ann Arbor Punk Week.

“We are in a much better atmosphere than last time. We don’t have the turmoil we had with previous resignations.” - Ann Arbor school board trustee Glenn Nelson, on finding a replacement for Superintendent Todd Roberts.

“Mr. Madison engaged the students in what he characterized as a ‘courageous’ conversation about race and racial profiling. This exchange caused some students to become upset with other students while others felt the conversation was personally accusatory.

Mr. Madison’s tone was described as passionate and intense by some and as yelling by others. Some students became clearly upset - crying -- and felt singled out. Mr. Madison sought out the school psychologist following the conversation to help calm individual classmates.” -- Ann Arbor elementary education director Lee Ann Dickinson-Kelley, in a report on Dicken school Principal Mike Madison.

"When I see a girl playing baseball now, I get a warm fuzzy. That makes me feel really good knowing that my granddaughter can grow up and have an equal opportunity to play on any team she wants to play on. That's a pretty awesome thought." - Carolyn King, whose desire as a 12-year-old Ypsilanti girl in 1973 to play baseball changed Little League forever.
