"I said, 'Are you serious?” But I thought, 'Wouldn't it be great if the orientation of public servants was, My job is to be your resource. You are paying my salary. How do I help you get your business open?'" Zingerman’s co-founder Paul Saginaw, quoted in Inc. magazine about being approached by Gov. Rick Snyder to provide training to help Lansing bureaucrats learn a bit about the company's "service culture."

“You see this happen on TV, but when it’s right next door to you, it’s horrible.” - Whitmore Lake resident Gary Chapput, who helped rescue a 2-year-old neighbor girl from the frigid waters last Sunday but was unable to save her father after they were thrown from a boat.

“When you look at what’s going on across country and world … technology is the thing that’s getting out there, because (municipalities) aren’t putting more cops on the street. They’re taking cops off the street and looking at technology to replace them.” - Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Lt. Jim Anuszkiewicz, on plans to place five security cameras in public areas in Ypsilanti Township’s West Willow neighborhood.

“If you’re in bankruptcy, sometimes a company’s got to ask whether they can afford something intangible like an identity and decide whether maybe it’s better if they can afford to stay in business going forward,” Publishing industry analyst Michael Norris, on Border’s decision to exit its Ann Arbor headquarters and consider leaving the area.
