"I have no confidence in the DDA board. Their obstinate demands for authority over setting rates and hours illustrates to me they've just become addicted and dependent upon parking revenues for their own purposes, and they're not necessarily interested in the public health, safety and welfare of our community." - Ann Arbor City Council Member Stephen Kunselman, arguing that the city should take back control of the downtown parking system.

"The only way the city would make money is if they did absolutely no maintenance on the parking system, and that's the problem with that theory." - DDA Chairwoman Joan Lowenstein, responding to Kunselman’s proposal.

“All the staff and students in the district need to know they are valued.” - Ypsilanti fifth-grade teacher Lisa Lava-Keller, on newly approved policy changes to protect all sexual orientations and gender identities.

“The governor has set us on a better course. It creates an environment that is attractive to business leaders.” - Comerica Bank economist Dana Johnson, on tax reforms pushed through by Gov. Rick Snyder.

“We will have friends, family, teammates and coaches play a few periods in his honor. Crying will not be allowed in the ice rink, we are hockey players!” - family friend Mike Hamilton, on plans for a hockey game to honor Ian Jenkins, 15, a Milan High School student and hockey player who was fatally injured in a fall from a pickup truck.
