President Obama fooled those who believed he would stop war

By Letters to the Editor

Iraq and Afghanistan are burning under the occupation of a half-million U.S. troops and contractors.

Mr. Obama is commanding these occupations, with jet bombers in one hand, and with Nobel Peace Prize in the other.

Even after Israel has massacred Gaza, Obama is still shamelessly supporting the racist state of Israel. Speaking of the United States on April 19th, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said "We receive three billion dollars from them each year; we get the best planes in the world from them." (Reuters, April 19, 2010)

In Ann Arbor, thousands hysterically seek tickets to welcome Obama. He fooled them into believing he will stop the war, and has made $23 trillion available to Wall Street vampires while Detroit schoolchildren are left empty-handed. Yet Obama has earmarked the biggest military budget in human history to continue butchery in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Is that a peace-loving president? Is that a peace-loving nation?

I have a modest proposal to bring peace to our midst; boycott Israel, hands off Iran and get out of Iraq and Afghanistan now.

Raspel, you have caught someone who set a trap for herself with her own words. Well done! Some more quotes that need to be scrutinized even as tedious and repetitious as it is for one to constantly be countering the same choruses: "* 1400 Palestinians were killed by Israel in their 2008-2009 assault on Gaza (three Israelis were killed by Palestinians during that time). "That's why I believe that Obama, Bush, and the Israeli leadership, will be tried for war crimes at the International Criminal Court, in the Hague. They may end their days as cellmates." Blaine Coleman A fact that the poster who wrote the above two paragraphs always conveniently omits is that more than five years ago, Israel unilaterally withdrew its forces and civilian population from Gaza and was "rewarded by constant firing of missiles at its kindergartens, nursery schools, pre-schools, hospitals, clinics, bus shelters, houses of worship, etc. by the far-from-innocent Hamas warlords who control Gaza, and therefore, these medieval overlords must bear the blame for those deaths, _not_ Israel. No mention by the person who made the statements above of all the casualties caused by Hamas and Hezbollah rockets and other acts of terrorism and war nor of the incredible forbearance of Israels armed forces until they finally had little choice but to do whatever they could to try to put an end to the continuous barrage of missiles fired at its southwestern cities such as Sderot in particular and at times, Ashdod and Ashkelon. Any other nation in the world that would be subjected to such constant attacks would not only be justified in defending itself with force, but would be lauded for doing so; but not when it comes to the Jewish state as far as the bloggers who can see only evil emanating from Israel (and the US) and never from Islamic and Arab extremists. As for trials in The Hague, dream on and on and on...if you actually think our president and our Israeli allies will be put in the international docket in Holland you keep mentioning! (Now, Bush is another story, but I will forebear and not go there as our current presidentwho inherited Bush's warsis the one being vilified by some bloggers here.) The true criminals, i.e., the Taliban, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Sudanese government and the mass murderers and rapists they sustain, and their fellow jihadis and those who aid and abet their acts of barbarism are the ones guilty of war crimes and many other major criminal acts. And while they should certainly be brought to justice, I am enough of a realist to grasp that it almost certainly won't happen unlike a couple of bloggers including the initiator of this thread by way of her letter here who ever and anon keep singing the refrain of scenarios that will never occur. And, as Bedrog correctly points out, no onerepeat no oneat any US university who holds the purse strings has boycotted, is boycotting, or will boycott Israel, our staunchest ally in the fight against the forces of darkness, terrorism, and medieval barbarism.

"Top Cat, your southern border has been drawn by military force. Please recall that U.S. (same as Israel) is a settler state. NONE of this land is yours. It has ALL been grabbed from others." --Mozhgan A rather curious and most awkward position for someone to take, i.e., condemning the occupation of the same land upon which that person is also a "settler." Makes one wonder why the writer of those words resides here! If this land is not ours, and this is a "settler state," then really the person who made that statement is also illegally occupying this land. In her own words, this land is not hers. But, if it's perfectly OK for her to be a settler here, why not Top Cat and the rest of us "settlers" and for that matter the Israelis in Israel? Someone has been hoisted by her own petard.

@blaine and mozhgan etc....israel is not involved in iraq or afghanistan ( although confronted with the same sort of fanatic enemies...so they're a worthy and reliable ally). Also not a single one of the "boycotts' you incessantly post about have been implemented, be they in dearborn or berkeley. @ top cat and briegel and mike and christy..whether you are left, right or 'libertarian' pretending that islamic radicals don't want to kill us is sheer delusion. ( indeed there seems to be some confusion among some of you between 'perpetrators' and 'innocent victims'). thankfully our president seems far clearer headed on these matters.

MODERATOR: you deleted an earlier post of mine in which i cite the issues ( jan, feb and march ) of the WASHTENAW JEWISH NEWS that expose the outrageous bigoted behaviors and downright lies of mozhgan, blaine and their cronies... i trust you will leave this up for those interested in educating themselves about these individuals.

It is extremely disappointing to see such public disinterest in issues that are so critical to economy and politics of todays America. The few people who have responded to this post, have totally ignored the issues and express no opinion on the trillions that have been taken from American education and health and delivered to the Wall Street, or the continuation of war and Obamas war crimes. To top cat: your southern border has been drawn by military force. Please recall that U.S. (same as Israel) is a settler state. NONE of this land is yours. It has ALL been grabbed from others.

Bring our troops home. Send the illegal aliens home. In both cases, the sooner the better.

Top Cat, Iraqis and Afghanis were not "killing each other" before the US occupations started. Sectarianism erupts only where US troops are present because they practice divide and conquer. You never hear about sectarian violence among Iraqi refugees in Syria and Jordan, only in Iraq where US troops are present. Also, by arguing for the US's right to secure its southern border by force, you have just made the argument for Afghanis and Iraqis to secure their borders against US occupation.

The notion that U.S. has ever prevented violence and chaos is completely ridiculous. May be you need to be reminded of U.S. invasions U.S. carpet-bombings overthrowing governments occupations suppressing movements for social change assassinating political leaders perverting elections manipulating labor unions manufacturing "news" economic and political sanctions... U.S.-supported death squads torture All these have been instigated, funded and militarily enforced by U.S. governments in the past, right up to the present. Abu Ghraib is just one example of many. Here is a book that would give you the information in detail and with full references: "Killing Hope: U.S. Military and C.I.A. Interventions Since World War II", at: http://www.amazon.com/Killing-Hope-C-I-Interventions-II-Updated/dp/1567512526/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1272827694&sr=8-1 So, it is completely ridiculous to equate U.S. presence with lack of chaos and violence. In fact, history shows us that U.S. supports, installs and nurtures chaos and violence everywhere it goes. So, in the words of a great Iraqi, addressing the occupiers: "Get out, Stay out, and turn yourself in to the Hague."

I wholeheartedly agree with Top Cat! Obama would be destroyed by the Right Wing Mad Hatters and most of the media if he actually pulled our troops out of these insane, mismanaged debacles. Ron Paul is absolutely right about these issues. The Generals that allow our soldiers to be misused and abused by the Perpetual War Profiteers should be ashamed of the disgrace to their oath of office! This is the same Pentagon that destroyed half of Vietnam and 55,000 of our soldiers to make it easy for Walmart to bring to America the Chinese goods made with child labor, slave labor, and prison labor while plundering the natural resoursces and polluting their environment Those dominoe's to stop the spread of Communism sure didn't stop Walmart! Our Southern border would be easily secured if we had the guts to jail the criminals who violate our laws by hiring illegals! They come here to the land we stole for a job. No job, no illegals! IMAGINE.......

We should leave the region and bring our legions home. They are needed here to secure our southern border. However, the notion that once we leave Afghanistan and Iraq peace will reign is completely ridiculous. They will resume killing each other and destroying schools for women. It's too bad but it is not our fight.
