Paul Schreiber deserves reelection as Ypsilanti's mayor

By Letters to the Editor

Four years ago I recommended Paul Schreiber as the best candidate for mayor of Ypsilanti. I believed he would continue the kind of honest, open, fact-based government for which we had all worked so hard during my tenure. He has done that and more, despite our difficult economic times. I strongly support re-electing Paul Schreiber.

We cannot make appropriate choices about our future as a community without knowing the truth. Speaking from my perspective as a physician, the patient deserves to know his diagnosis even if it is bad. A patient who is kept in the dark cannot make appropriate decisions for his future. Paul Schreiber has had the courage to tell us the hard truths that we need to hear, rather than trying to be popular by telling us what we wish were true. Paul’s opponent is stressing his greater number of years experience in city government as a plus in this campaign. However, far more important than the total number of years experience each mayoral candidate has is this: What has been OUR experience as a community under the leadership of Mr Schreiber in this century vs under his opponent in the last century? Those of us who have lived here awhile remember a time in the last century when Ypsilanti City government was the laughing stock of Washtenaw County. Politics seemed to be driven by personality and a desire for personal gain and power, not by facts or by what was in the best interests of the community. Being a good mayor requires a calm personality with a positive outlook and no personal agenda. It requires someone who is bright, thoughtful and listens well. It requires the courage to always tell the truth. Let’s re-elect Paul Schreiber as our mayor for four more years of good government, and keep Ypsilanti moving forward! Cheryl Farmer Ypsilanti

Cheryl Farmer gave Ypsilanti water street and reduced public safety levels as a result of the massive debt incurred during her time as mayor. Her opinion is worth about as much as the contaminated property in water street.
