Should the city be involved in mixed-use development?

By Stefanie Murray

Business Director Paula Gardner has a story up today about how local developers are skeptical that the Ann Arbor library lot proposal request will work.

The city is seeking proposals to build on the 1.2-acre property it owns that is known as the “library lot” on South Fifth Avenue. Work on a $59 million underground parking garage will begin in October.

Developers cite several other stalled RFP projects that the city has been involved in.

  • Yes - the current request for proposal (RFP) system works, the economy has caused delays
  • No - if the city wants land developed, it should sell it.
