U-M, Ann Arbor need to join movement to boycott Israel

By Letters to the Editor

Thirty-five Ann Arbor residents held a protest in front of the Federal Building on Monday, protesting the most recent Israeli attack and killing of activists carrying food and medicine to the starving Gazans. Participants in the protest held signs such as “Zionism is Racism,” Boycott Israel,” “Boycott Israeli Apartheid,” Stop U.S. Funding of Israel,” and “Save Gaza.” The group plans to go to the Ann Arbor City Council meeting on Monday June 7th at 7:00 p.m. (second floor of the City Hall on 5th and Ann Street) to demand total boycott of Israel.

Israel has been called a war criminal by many international human rights organizations for its actions in Gaza (December 2008 to January 2009), its use of chemical warfare (White Phosphorous) on unarmed civilians and its total destruction of Palestinian infrastructure. Movements to boycott Israel are growing worldwide, and several U.S. campuses have been passing resolutions to cut ties with the apartheid state. Hampshire College divested from Israel in February 2009. This year alone, U-M Dearborn Student Government and University of California at Berkeley's student government voted to divest from the Israeli military. It is U-M Ann Arbor’s turn to follow those examples and boycott Israel at once.

moderator amalie nash...i most certainly did not insinuate that mozhgan savabieasfahani committed a crime. i merely accurately noted that in her own words she suggested america was in for "alot of damage ' soon if we didnt cut our ties to israel. i properly asked if, since such trouble would no doubt come from the islamic extremists she clearly supports, she knew anything specific, since failure to report such would be a crime,as indicated by the sorts of actions taken in the wake of the attempted times square bombing ( who knew what and when etc). i also accurately noted that a line of rehtoric employed by her husband in his interminably repetitive posts on a number of threads and sites echoes one recently taken by a spokesman for the iranian revolutionary guard.. i.e. the absurd notion that obama should be tried as a war criminal at the hague)...also echoed by al qaeda. relax amalie, tony et al..and recognize that if a2.com persists in giving a forum to known extremists a strong reaction is both inevitable and proper...as long as its logical and reasonable, as mine always are.

Israel was within its rights to board the ship to search for contraband. The fact that the terrorists committed the first violent actions seems to escaped the author of the article. His letter is just a statement of his own prejudice and nothing more. Plain garbage.

p.s. to mozhgan...i hope, in speaking out at city council against 'militarism and murder', you'll also be castigating the arabs in darfur, the hamasniks who just burned down a coed summer childrens camp in gaza as 'corrupting', the recent sunni attacks on ahmadiyyas in pakistan, your native country's bomb quest...and so many other muslim on muslim( and on everyone else) atrocities that space precludes mention ( a2.com has a word limit on posts like this).... but somehow i doubt you will ( the script clearly precludes it!)..

the one ship in the flotilla involved carried jihadi extremist activists from turkey who attacked the israelis who justifiably were concerned with weopons smuggling...no other ships were so affected. do i perhaps detect a 'crocodile-tears-y' quality to this letter ( the letter writer, her husband and her dopplegangers are clearly just loving this situation.., as are the 'activists ' who provoked it.

The myth of Israels security should by now have been debunked. If 300 atom bombs and the 4th largest military in the world does not buy Israel security then it is time to start thinking in a different way. No one in the immediate vicinity of Israel has the military power to inflict any kind of serious damage on Israel. There is however a way to inflict most serious damage on Israel (Boycott!). Boycott is what Israelis are most afraid of. And without a doubt, boycott is coming. Come with us to City Council Meeting on the 7th and speak out against militarism and murder. Demand that the city boycotts Israel.

No country should be asked to commit national suicide. Israel is surrounded by countries and organizations advocating nothing short of their annihilation. What are they supposed to do?

I stand with Israel, they are only trying to protect their people and these supposed activists are working for Hamas and Hezbollah. Israel is simply defending their land and their people from more terrorist attacks.

35 people in A^2 went out of their way to express concern for the fate of innocent humanitarian civilians. This is a very good start.

Israel suffers massive paranoia. Imagine the 4th largest atomic military force, with 300 atom bombs and their finger on the red button. Israeli cross-hairs are on every capital in the Middle East and every capital in Europe. Which cities in the U.S. are the targets of Israeli bombs is anyones guess. If no real action is taken to stop Israel, we may be pushing the world towards the third world war. Trust me; with the kind of massive destruction power U.S., Europe, and Israel have, this tiny planet will turn into specks of dust pretty quickly (making the BP spill irrelevant to Earths health). If we fail to stop Israel, we should anticipate a lot of damage and soon. Boycott Israel now! Before it is too late.

Watch these videos of those "activists" in action: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYjkLUcbJWo www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYjkLUcbJWo Palestinians send rockets and suicide bombers into Israel to commit murder and people feign shock that Israel wants to keep weaponry from being imported? If there were no weapons, or no "activists" intent on starting a fight, why didn't they send their ships to the proper shipping port as other legitimate traffic? Hamas and Hezbollah refuse to give up their sick dream of exterminating the Jews. Until the Palestinian people give up on those terrorist organizations and their Iranian puppet masters and get rid of them there is no chance of peace.
