Vote with your heads and hearts on Nov. 2, not your spleens

By Letters to the Editor

Are we voting with our heads and hearts - or with our spleens? I question those who would try to "send a message" about their discontent by electing candidates who believe there is no such thing as "good government".

Spleens have very short memories. They forget what "The Republican Team" mentioned in the campaign literature we're getting did the last time it was in office. How the Republicans who ran Michigan until eight years ago set in place policies that helped create the perfect storm when the national economy went into recession during the Bush administration.

We all want to see a return to prosperity at the local, state and national levels. Michigan, thanks in part to the economic diversification that Governor Granholm promoted but no thanks to the Republican-controlled Senate, is beginning to recover. And, we have benefited from the national Recovery Act spending on infrastructure projects and local police, firefighters and teachers.

If we vote with our heads and hearts, we'll select candidates who believe that government has a valuable role to play, who take it seriously and will devote their time and talent to serving the public good.

To keep Michigan moving forward, I urge you to vote for the entire Democratic ticket. Especially for Mark Schauer for Representative for the 7th Congressional district, Rebekah Warren for State Senate for the 18th district, Christine Green to succeed Pam Byrnes as Representative for the State House 52nd district, and Adam Zemke for County Commissioner for Washtenaw County's 1st district.

And remember, there's a non-partisan section of the ballot where you'll find the judicial races. Alton Davis and Dennis Morris are excellent candidates for the two seats on the Michigan Supreme Court.

" to keep Michigan moving forward." very funny Caligula. What Michigan do you live in? Mine has a Single State Recession of some 8 Years now - The Granholm Recession. Unemployment at over 13% and U6 at over 21% Bottom 2 Worst States to do business in. High Taxes. The 6 yr MI State GDP - like a cliff dive. Historically high Foreclosures. Property values down some 60%. Ypsi homes for sale at Bid for Assets - $350. Annual Incomes down form $55k to $44k. My heart does not want More of That.

"To keep Michigan moving forward, I urge you to vote for the entire Democratic ticket." This is the kind of follow the leader politics that gets nothing worthwhile done! I don't care if you are a Republican or Democrat! If you can not think for yourself and just blindly follow the party line you are the biggest part of the problem in this country!

Bernadette and the Democrats are trying to change the subject and do everything other than run on their record and the results of it. They are paraphrasing the Groucho Marx quote, "Who are you going to believe, me or your own eyes?" High unemployment and trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see are the reality. The results on November 2 will be the verdict.

Take a clear eyed look at the performance of the Michigan legislature and Governor. Have their policies encouraged economic growth? Protected the environment? Reduced crime? Improved education? Our auto plants are closing. Unemployment is over 12%. Our children are leaving the state to find jobs. The public schools in many cities are failing. Why would you choose to elect the same people who failed in their job. Their job was to make rational policies for the benefit of ALL the people of our state. Not just their political allies. Stop electing peole based solely on the D or R next to their name. Elect people who believe the government that governs least governs best.

The democrats have run the congress for 4 years... disastrously. Obama's 2 years have been a debacle so far. Out of control spending, an escalation of the Afghan quagmire, bail outs to nowhere, stimulus that didn't stimulate... the WORST president in US history. And you conveniently forget that Bush had to deal with a 50-50 senate, not a "GOP majority" with RINO's like Maine's senators and Specter giving the democrats virtual control. You want our nation to fail? Vote for more liberal democrats. They're taking us there in a hurry!

Thank you Bernadette for your intelligent commentary. Remember Engler and all the Republican Secretaries of State, Attorney Generals, Justices who got us into this huge mess. We are still housecleaning. Vote Virg and the Democratic ticket, Davis and Morris.
