Ypsilanti Township residents can't afford new police millage

By Letters to the Editor

I received some information in the mail from Ypsilanti Township regarding a new tax millage for police services. Our elected officials, say that this will be for a period of 4 years. BUYER BEWARE!! This would be in addition to ANY new taxes that Lansing is going to implement on us. Lansing has guaranteed that there will be new taxes/higher fees as part of the new budget,

Voters/taxpayers, take a look at your current tax bill and your paycheck stub (if you are still working). Look at the taxes you already pay. Do you want or need or can you afford another new tax? Is this new 4-year tax going to be for 4 years only, or is it going to be renewable in 4 years? History tells us that renewable taxes are almost always renewed. If that is the case, this new 4-year tax would be a permanent tax added to your tax bill.

Can Ypsilanti Township elected officials guarantee the voter/taxpayer that they will not come back in 4 years to ask for a renewable vote? If approved, can this new tax be paid in weekly installments as is outlined in the information pamphlet that was mailed to us?

Vote no for this new tax millage/tax increase for police services.
