Passport-2-Pittsfield offers family activities, opportunity to tour township buildings

By Heather Lockwood

Area residents are invited to an open house in Pittsfield Township April 17.

Residents can tour the township’s seven buildings, pose for photos with Sparky the Fire Dog and McGruff the Crime Dog and see fire trucks and police cars on display at the Passport-2-Pittsfield event..

Pittsfield Township buildings will be open to visitors from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and township employees will volunteer as greeters and tour guides, according to a Pittsfield Township news release.

Free, secure on-site shredding will be provided to guests at the township hall, and visitors will receive a Passport-2-Pittsfield to chart the afternoon’s free activities, according to the release.

Visitors can also pick up free state tree seedlings and children can help build a "box city" from recyclable items and receive a junior police badge and firefighter hat. Visitors will also get reusable bag with energy-saving items for the home, according to the release.

@ Adam Betz......the prosecutor cleared the officer TWICE. Video shows the man made a quick movement that could be drawing a weapon. Why do you believe the officer is under trained? Because she did not wait to be shot at first? What constitues a reliable department?

As to what constitutes a reliable department, it's one where their officers know the Constitution, know the laws without a doubt within the local, state and federal guidelines and hire experienced, emotionally stable officers who have the best interests of the people they SERVE in mind, and not just trying to make a paycheck.

Bob, just because she was cleared twice (by the county prosecutor of all people) doesn't mean she wasn't wrong...if I didn't have the video to watch over and over, things would be different and I'd give her the benefit of the doubt. Prosecutors are some of the most politically corrupt and money grubbing folks in the business...history is filled with examples....our county is no different and the police and prosecutors work hand in hand to ensure the good ole boy network stays solid and the people get the short end of the stick.

Buttering us up for the millage vote huh? I think I'd rather have a police department who does not cover up wrongful shootings from an under trained officer. I'd be more willing to vote for a millage from a reliable department.
