Patient at University of Michigan Hospital accused of exposing himself to employee

By Amalie Nash

A patient at the University of Michigan Hospital could be charged with indecent exposure after a staff member reported he began fondling himself in front of her Tuesday, campus police said.

The patient was lying in bed when the staff member entered at 11:26 p.m., reports said. She said the man made inappropriate comments and then began fondling himself, reports said.

She reported the incident to hospital security officers, who alerted police.

Campus police spokeswoman Diane Brown said the patient is a 45-year-old Livonia man, but she did not have information on why he was hospitalized.

The case will be turned over to prosecutors for review.

I would be much more concerned if it was a staff member exposing himself to a patient.

One can fondle and not expose, the headline takes this further than the content of the article. Can we get some synchronicity here?

The story really is vague on details. The guy is in a hospital. Perhaps he is suffering from some sort of mental problem. The problem probably should be handled internally not made a legal matter. The nurse was not touched, and she certainly has seen naked male bodies before. My girlfriend is a nurse as well, and has experienced similar problems. Normally, the person has some sort of medical problem. Nonetheless, she'd never report it to security to be made a police matter. She'd get a male nurse to take care of the person or take step to address the problem internally. Provided the person hasn't hurt anybody, he should be a patient first.

Physical health un-known, perhaps he should be on the mental floor. Great job nurse for reporting this 45 yr. old man.

You'd have to be a real jerk to pull something like that.

My girlfriend used to be a nurse in a hospital and would report this is a very common occurrence. Rest assured this display of manhood is never rewarded and usually resulted in a good laugh in the break room at the offender's expense.
