Pittsfield Township firefighters douse HVAC unit fire

By Julie Baker

Crews from the Pittsfield Township Fire Department dispatched to a structure fire Monday morning doused a blaze in a heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit before it could spread to the rest of the building.

Firefighters were dispatched at 11:23 a.m. to 5400 S. State St. The first arriving unit found heavy smoke in the building and began to investigate. Crews determined that all employees were out of the building and accounted for, according to a news release.

Firefighters determined that the blaze was contained to one HVAC unit and it was extinguished quickly. The HVAC unit sustained moderate damage and the building was ventilated.

An excessive amount of smoke was due to extensive plastics burning around the unit, the department said.

There were no injuries. A damage estimate was not immediately available.

The Ypsilanti Township Fire Department responded to an injury accident in Pittsfield Township while the firefighters were on the scene, according to the news release. The details of that crash were not immediately known.
