A 21-year-old Pittsfield Township man and a 29-year-old Sturgis man were arrested this afternoon after allegedly stealing $4,500 cash from an 18-year-old Pittsfield Township resident, township Deputy Police Director Gordy Schick said.

Officers responded to a residence in the 4400 block of West Pitchpine Lane at about 4:25 p.m., where a man and woman reported being assaulted. The victims, both 18, told police they went to the apartment, and the man had $4,500 cash on him, Schick said. 

A fight apparently broke out, and the two suspects are accused of grabbing the cash and attempting to flee. The woman suffered some abrasions, and the man didn't sustain any serious injuries, Schick said.

The suspects fled in a 1996 Buick and were soon stopped by police. A woman who lived in the apartment where the fight allegedly occurred was also in the car, but she was not arrested, Schick said.

Police believe the suspects and victims know one another. It was not immediately known what started the fight.

The Pittsfield Township man and Sturgis man were lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail. Schick said police will turn the case over to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office Friday morning to review for possible criminal charges.
