Pittsfield Township police release composite sketch of gunman in carjacking
Pittsfield Township police released a composite sketch today of a carjacker who investigators say asked for a ride and then stole the car at gunpoint Saturday evening.
Police released this composite of the carjacker.
A driver told police he was outside Kroger in the 3000 block of Carpenter Road at 5:40 p.m. Saturday when a stranger asked for a ride. The driver obliged, and the stranger got into the rear seat behind the driver, pulled out a gun and ordered him to drive, police said.
Police said the gunman had the driver stop the vehicle in the area of Munger and Textile roads, where he ordered the driver out. The driver ran when the gunman was distracted.
Police have since recovered the 2009 Toyota Camry that was taken.
The gunman was described as black, 23-24 years old, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, thin build, and was wearing a black long-sleeved polo shirt.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Tiffany Small at 734-944-4911, ext. 110 or smallt@pittsfield-mi.gov.

I stopped going to that kroger partly because I was frequently being approached by people begging for money "for food" or gas or whatever while claiming that they aren't begging. Kroger should hire a security gard to "refer" those people to organizations that can help them. That might help to discourage such things.

I have been approached twice in the parking lot of the Kroger on Whitaker Rd. Seems like this is happening frequently in parking lots. Do not let a stranger enter your car. Get in your car and lock the doors. Better to be safe than sorry.

Just great. That's where I shop. Although I'm betting this man won't show his face there for a while, I'm definitely going to be more aware in that parking lot. Scary.

This "sketch" really narrows it down. @keepsitreal "spooky stranger" did you really say that.

@Steve Pepple: "A comment was removed because it contained speculation." Most of the posts/articles on this site contain speculation. What kind of reasoning is that to remove a post?

First mistake; don't give rides to strangers, simple as that. Guy in a parking lot of a Kroger, asks for a ride. Did he ask where to? Second mistake; why is he sitting in the back seat. Sorry, but as much as we might want to help people, the best bet is to ignore the person, or maybe just turn around and go back into the store. Despite the boneheaded reasoning of others, a CCW is not needed if one were to use common sense first.

Actually, a car jacking like this is going to provide a CCW holder ample opportunity to use it. Don't need much practice when the bad guy is so close. The key is access to your weapon. The real problem is how you are going to mess up the interior of your car. This is a kidnapping too.

A CPL won't help you if your situational awareness stinks or if you don't use good judgement and put yourself in bad stuations. Bet in general yes, get your CPL, seek additinal training and practice.
