A gas station clerk was injured this evening when a pop bottle bomb left behind by two men exploded near the counter, Pittsfield Township police said.

Officers are now searching for the two men responsible for placing the explosive device at the Sunoco in the 4000 block of Washtenaw Avenue just after 7 p.m.

Township police said the clerk was working alone when the men entered and placed a pop bottle containing "reactionary contents" near the counter.

After the men exited, the device exploded, causing the clerk to suffer minor eye and throat irritation from the fumes, police said. The clerk went to an area hospital to be evaluated.

The first man was described as black, 18-20 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, thin build and had dreadlocks. He was wearing a black sweat jacket, red shirt and dark pants.

The second man was described as black, 18-20 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, medium build with short hair. He was wearing a blue hoodie, dark pants and blue baseball cap.
