Pittsfield Township receives $300,000 for Hickory Woods Park
Pittsfield Township is $300,000 closer to developing the Hickory Woods Park.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources awarded the grant as part of its 2009 Development Grant Awards.
“In these times of doing more with less, $300,000 is a boon to Pittsfield Township’s ongoing efforts to improve the public spaces that are freely available for everyone to enjoy,” Pittsfield Township Supervisor Mandy Grewal said in a press release. “It’s exciting to know that we will have the funds to pursue this second phase of developing this space for the pleasure of visitors in the years ahead.”
New development on the 46-acre park, located south of Michigan Avenue on Crane Road, will include a new entry drive, a 50-car parking lot and a restroom building. Phase 2 will include multi-use pathways, play field areas and a storm water bio swale.
Work on the park started in October with the demolition of existing buildings, landscaping and the creation of a playground center.
The park was formerly the Hickory Woods Golf Course.

Since when does the state also give grants to fund local police? Oh yeah, that is the county who does that, and only for certain unnamed townships without their own...

You'll have funds to pursue the 2nd phase of the developing space. It'd be exciting if you have the funds to support the police too!!

What is the owner of the Old Golf Course getting for this deal. He wanted to sell the property that he legally owned, but the township fought him. I hope he is getting fair market value for the land he's selling.

part of this space would make for a terrific disc golf course and prove an incredible asset for the park patrons.
