Pittsfield Township was awarded $3.138 million in stimulus funds toward a project to update the aging water main system in the northeast corner of the township. Supervisor Mandy Grewal said in a release that she recently received the official confirmation of the funding. That will cover 40 percent of the project, Grewal said.
With an eye toward being “shovel ready” for stimulus funds, engineering was completed for the project early in the year, the township said.
Township officials say the project - deemed a critical infrastructure upgrade for the township - is the biggest pipe project in the state.
The funding is being routed through the state's Drinking Water Revolving Fund, a low-interest loan program created to assist Michigan water suppliers to satisfy requirements of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act.
