Plan ahead: Thanksgiving closures around Washtenaw County

With the Thanksgiving holiday fast approaching, numerous entities throughout the county have announced closures.

Most village, city and township offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24 (Thanksgiving Day) and Friday, Nov. 25. Here's a roundup of some of them:

City of Ann Arbor

  • There will be no city trash, recycling, or compost collection services on Thursday. The normal Thursday pickups will occur on Friday, and the normal Friday routes will be serviced on Saturday, Nov. 26, this week only.
  • The City of Ann Arbor Municipal Center at 301 E. Huron St. — including the Larcom City Hall and the 15th District Court in the Justice Center building — will be closed on Thursday and Friday. The Police Department front desk on the second floor of the Justice Center remains open to the public. Operations for 24-hour municipal response for water utilities, field operations, fire response, and emergency police services will continue to be provided around the clock.

City of Chelsea

  • City offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. The city transfer station will be closed Friday and Saturday.


  • The Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (TheRide) will not operate regular fixed-route bus service, A-Ride, A2Express, or senior shared-ride services on Thursday. Most regular bus, A-Ride and senior services will resume on Friday with the following exceptions:

  1. There will be no service on Route 1U, or the Route 33 EMU Shuttle. Service will not operate on Route 4C trips.
  2. Routes 4A and 4B will pull into U-M Hospital and the Medford/Manchester stop.
  3. On Routes 4A and 4B, the only trips that will operate are those leaving the Blake Transit Center at 18 and 48 minutes past the hour and the Ypsilanti Transit Center on the hour and half hour.
  4. Route 36 bus service from Wolverine Tower will be reduced to service every 30 minutes at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour.
  5. The Eastern Michigan University Route 34 shuttle will not be in service on Thursday or Friday.

The Blake and Ypsilanti Transit Centers will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and will reopen on Friday. The main office lobby at 2700 S. Industrial Highway will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. On Friday, the main office will be open from 8:00 a.m. to noon and closed from noon to 5:00 p.m.

Passengers may take advantage of AATA’s Holiday Ride shared-ride service on Nov. 24 for $5 a person. Seniors and persons with disabilities with an AATA Senior or ADA identification card may ride for $2.50. Individuals with a go!pass may ride for $3.

Holiday Ride service operates within the city limits of Ann Arbor and east to Golfside Road between Clark and Ellsworth roads. To schedule a Holiday Ride trip, call 734-528-5432. Bus route and schedule information is available on TheRide’s website at

  • All Secretary of State offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, and SUPER!Centers will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 26. For more information, visit

Village of Dexter

  • Village offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. Trash collection scheduled for Friday will be pushed back one day to Saturday.

Pittsfield Township

  • Township offices are closed Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25.

City of Saline

  • City offices will be closed Thursday and Friday.
  • Collection of trash, recycling and yard waste will be delayed one day. Collection schedule: Residents living west of Ann Arbor Street - Friday, Nov. 25. Residents living east of Ann Arbor Street - Saturday, Nov. 26. This will be the last pickup for curbside yard waste collection this year.

City of Ypsilanti

  • City offices will be closed Thursday and Friday.
  • No trash collection is schedule for Thursday, Nov. 24. Collection on Friday has been pushed back one day to Saturday, Nov. 26.

Ypsilanti Township

  • Township offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. Thursday and Friday trash collection routes are on a one-day delay.
