Police release more information on Ypsilanti Township man accused of stealing and crashing truck

By Kyle Feldscher

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office has released more information regarding a vehicle theft in Superior Township and the arrest of the suspect near Golfside Drive and Clark Road Tuesday.

A 24-year-old Ypsilanti Township man was arrested on multiple criminal charges after police said he stole a black Ford pickup truck from a Superior Township manufactured home community some time between 6 p.m. Monday and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to a press release.

Police said the man had taken the keys and the vehicle without the owner’s permission. The owner of the vehicle knows the suspect, police said.

Deputy John Campbell stopped the suspect in the stolen vehicle Tuesday morning, before he drove away into a nearby apartment complex and struck a small tree, according to police. As the suspect fled on foot into a nearby apartment, additional deputies arrived on the scene, eventually arresting the man in the apartment, police said.

The suspect was wanted on a parole detainer by the Michigan Department of Corrections and had other outstanding felony warrants for his arrest, police said. The investigation will be turned over to the county prosecutor's office for review of numerous charges.

Another correction to be made. The suspect did not know the owner of the pickup. The truck is mine and my husbands and we had lent it to a family member. It was stolen from her residence. We do not know this man!!!!

@Bertha Information we received yesterday indicated the suspect was 27, but today's information states he is 24. I've updated the story to clarify his age and apologize for the confusion.

So, is the suspect 24 or 27? Seems a bit confusing.
