The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is looking for a 14-year-old Scio Township girl who went missing last week.

Unique Imaria Patterson was last seen at 11 a.m. June 19.

"We are very afraid for her safety, miss and love her and just want her back home," her mother, Anne Lynn, wrote AnnArbor.com in an email.

The sheriff's office took a report on June 19 and conducted an investigation. At this point, they do not have any further leads as to where she may be, said Sgt. Geoff Fox of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office.

A poster on the website for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children describes Patterson as 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 120 pounds. She may go by the nickname Angel.

Anyone with information regarding Patterson's whereabouts should contact the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678 (1-800-THE-LOST) or the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office at (734) 971-3954.

Not only why hasn't this been reported before in annarbor.com but why haven't I seen this on the news? This should be news everywhere so everyone can help locate her.

Why doesn't this lead the story? What are you waiting for? More police or parent verification?

Anne Lynn, Patterson's mother, sent AnnArbor.com another email today wanting to point out that her daughter only has the decision-making ability of a much younger child. "She may be 14, but her ... thinking is much like a 9 to 11-year-old," she wrote. Lynn also wanted the public to know that Patterson hasn't had her necessary medication for a week.

Maybe this information should be included in the article. Not everyone reads the comment.

There seems to be a lot of missing people lately and they have all turned up fine. I hope the same for this girl and her family. Whatever happened to that college student who disappeared?

It's always our goal to get information like this up on the site as soon as we can. In this case, we were not made aware of Patterson being missing until her mother notified us about it over the weekend. We could not confirm it with the sheriff's office until Monday morning.

I was not faulting annarbor.com for the late report. I certainly did not mean to imply that. You can only report the information that you are given. A 14 year old girl missing for this long is alarming, to say the least.

prayers for her safety ..... I agree that it seems the sooner these sorts of things get out in to the public the greater the chance the public can be of help.

@justcurious,I am wondering the same thing? Why are we just learning about this? And why is the stolen street signs article the first on the page and this story is about half way down the page? I would think a 14 year old missing would be a priority, even if she did leave on her own will. It is amazing to me the things we consider newsworthy. I sure hope this young lady is found safe and unharmed.

Why are we just reading about this now? I would certainly think that this would be the first place where someone would post this, hoping to get a lead. I sincerely hope that she is found safe and sound. What is the maximum age for Amber Alerts?

I concur. I thought when dealing with missing persons that the first 48 hours were the most important? Amber alerts are for 17 and younger...but they require "risk of serious injury or death." My guess is that because an amber alert wasn't issued it's because she ran off with a friend, etc. They might also be publishing this news article to convince the girl to come back home. I still agree that first hearing about this 5 days after the disappearance seems like negligence on the part of those responsible for the investigation.
