Police search for passenger who fled the scene of 3-vehicle accident

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Police are looking for a heavyset black male who fled the scene of a 3-vehicle accident on M-14, according to Michigan State Police Paul Royal.

The accident, which occurred on eastbound M-14 just east of U.S. 23 shortly after 2 p.m. today, had both lanes closed with traffic passing on the shoulder.

One vehicle caught fire, but no one was injured. While all 3 drivers were on the scene when police arrived, a passenger fled into the woods near Dominos Farms.

The story doesn't indicate that there will be any follow up. There's a guy running in the woods, so what? There are a bunch of homeless people that live in woods around the freeways and railroad tracks too. I just want to know why this is important - if there's a possible public safety warning, then I'd like to know. Furthermore, this story was published Yesterday.

Ditto on C6. Why does anyone care where this guy is? I mean its possible he didn't want to stick around because he had a criminal record? Did he play a part in the accident somehow? Maybe he just needed to get to work so he ran off and caught a cab. Maybe he worked at Domino's Farms. Is he to be considered dangeous? Should the residents on Earhart Road be concerned for their saftey? This article doesn't provide enough information. I know that AnnArbor.com's motto is "who what where when and YOU" but we really need the "WHY" in this case.

Unless the person who left the scene is believed to have been driving one of the three vehicles involved, or otherwise believed to have contributed to the cause of the accident, did he really have an obligation to remain at the scene? Couldn't this be as simple as someone who was being transported to work or another important appointment continuing his journey via available alternative means, when his trip was delayed because of the accident? I'd say to call his disappearance "fleeing" is speculative at best. Further digging into the facts is necessary before making the jump to this conclusion. So do we have additional facts to consider?

Regarding Ms. Sherman's censoring of comments made by Mr. Halford. Obviously, I don't know what Mr. Halford wrote, but I have to agree with him that Ms. Sherman's reply is very disconcerting. Her reply describes a subjective standard for monitoring this commentary forum. There's nothing in the Terms of Service that requires comments to "further the discussion" nor did Ms. Sherman say that the comments she removed violated any Terms of Service. Perhaps she was just unclear in her choice of words, but her response implies that she will moderate comments using a vague and personal standard of what is "on topic" and "furthers the discussion". In general, commentary should not be deleted or censored unless it violates the User Agreement. Frivolous comments and jokes abound on these sites (check the sports section). The rest of us can decide how to weigh them and whether they warrant any attention or response. It's easy to press the scroll key and it's not like we're wasting paper here.

Atticvus, he would be one heck of an athlete if he gets over to 94 and M-14 on foot from dominos farms. He probably used the cell phone and got a ride from someone already.

Hopefully they'll shut down the entire I-94/M-14 interchange until they find this guy.

Great, hope this is cleared up before I head home.
