Police to close Ypsilanti Township intersection today as investigation into fatal crash continues
Washtenaw County sheriff's officials are advising drivers to avoid the intersection of Ecorse and Harris roads in Ypsilanti Township this afternoon, where a five-car fatal crash occurred Tuesday.
Sheriff's Sgt. David Archer said this morning police will be closing the intersection at 12:30 p.m. for follow-up investigation. It's not known how long the road will need to remain closed.
The intersection was the scene of a high-speed crash involving five vehicles at about 5 p.m. Tuesday. Police said a drunken driver was to blame for the crash, which killed a 32-year-old Canton Township woman and injured her two children.
Anyone with information is asked to call the confidential tip line at 734-973-7711 or Deputy Robert Losey at 734-973-4791.

Tsk tsk tsk All of you speculating about criminal activities are off topic, this is a traffic brief and your comments should be confined to that or you risk moderation. Friendly warning. /sarcasm

You can impound the car, you can suspend a license, and you can even order fines. Sad truth is, someone let this guy get back into a car. I'm not sure why his license was suspended in the first place, but I thought I read that this incident would be his 2nd DWI (DUI, OUI, whatever you want to call it). We will probably never know the whole story on this one.

@ Amalie, The more correct response is that the other story is NOW also tagged and in the crime section. Interesting that AA.com feels this "brief" does not deserve to be similarly tagged.... Thank you for your attention to this matter in any case.

Again, that this and the other article are not in the CRIME section sure is telling about AA staff attitudes towards both drinking and driving.... Hello? "investigation", "fatal", "crash", "high-speed", "drunk driver", "killed" = CLUES and are indicitive of a crime...

To those who advocate all drunk drivers switch to marijuana in lieu of alcohol, why stop at marijuana? Crack makes one alert and heightens the senses, so why not legalize crack? Marijuana & crack--the slippery slope goes down hill from here.

People just don't care, or they believe it will never happen to them. I see people driving while texting (Just as bad as driving drunk) all the time. And I can't count the number of times I've seen people with books proped up on the stirring wheel while they drive. Seems we only care about ourselves and that the other people in this world are only here to get in our ways. The guy should not be getting bail, just as these kids no longer get to have a mother.

What a shame. Alcohol goes on killing with no end in site. As long as there is taxes to be made nothing will change. You lose loved ones and life goes on. And the controversy goes on about legalizing marijuana. How many people have died in a car accident as a result of someone who had been smoking marijuana?

Since license suspension or revocation doesn't seem to stop drunk driving, maybe longer jail time would. Perhaps the political candidates would consider making the penalties in the State of Michigan the most harsh of all the 50 states when people are killed as a result of their actions. Similarly stiff penalties for drunk driving without injury. This is a case where I would really like to see Michigan "leading the nation" with something good, as opposed to bad or negative. I can't think of a reason why anyone would think that drunk driving is okay. Last time I looked it's not a right protected in the Constitution.
