Those who regularly travel the loop around the University of Michigan Hospital will find a portion of the road closed due to construction traffic this week.

The closure began at the portion of East Medical Center Drive and East Hospital Drive closest to construction of the new children's and women's hospital.

One-way streets near C.S. Mott Children's Hospital have been temporarily turned into two-way streets to allow some traffic - such as people driving to the birthing center - to get through.

The road is closed to move cranes onto the work site. It is planned to be closed through the end of the workday on Friday, but could open earlier.

The hospital provided a map that shows where the road will be closed and posted detour signs to help people navigate, said spokesman Bruce Spiher.
