Rockin' for the Hungry raises a record 258 tons of food
With the need for food at a nearly all-time high, Ann Arbor area residents stepped up and set a record during the five-day Rockin' for the Hungry event.
Final tallies released today show 258 tons of food were collected between last Wednesday and Sunday for Food Gatherers.
The annual Rockin' for the Hungry event set a record this year.
The event was hosted by Busch’s Fresh Food Market outside the store on South Main Street and broadcast live by ann arbor’s 107one.
At the start of the event, organizers set a goal of 200 tons of food. This year's event raised the most food in Rockin’ for the Hungry history, according to Food Gatherers.
“On behalf of all the people seeking food assistance this year, we are so grateful to ann arbor’s 107one, Busch's and the citizens of Washtenaw County for making a real difference in our community,” Eileen Spring, president and CEO of Food Gatherers, said in a press release. “When we needed you most, you rose to the challenge."
Busch’s will continue to accept financial contributions at the register or food donations at any of its 15 locations through Dec. 13.
