By AnnArbor.com Staff
About 600 customers in northwest Ann Arbor and Scio Township have been without power for much of today, DTE Energy said.
The outage was caused by downed power lines. A DTE spokesman said power was expected to be restored this afternoon.

This is not a news story: this is an enlarged headline with no attempt at investigation. There were dramatic flashes of light and a lit-up sky with the sound of transformers blowing around 4:30am Thursday and I looked to my local newspaper to know more. Next time I'll get the kids at the nearest elementary school to cover the news.

I find it astonishing that in this day and age, with all the accomplishments the USA has achieved in technology, science, invention, etc., that power lines are STILL not underground. You go to other countries and you don't see unsightly poles marring the streets and countryside carrying power lines. If other countries can bury power lines, surely the United States can. The power system now is so primitive.

It would be nice to know where this happened. NW Ann Arbor and Scio Township covers a lot of ground.

First we were told between 8-10am, followed by 1-3pm, followed by 'any minute now' at 4:40pm. At 6pm they said 7:30-9:30pm. We finally did get power back at 7:45pm. I wish they could just tell us the last possible time to begin with so we know that our food will spoil in the fridge/freezer vs. thinking it will be ok because it is just a few hours.

Is this part of the new energy bill designed to save power and the planet?

DTE has issued and missed four different repair time estimates thus far. Disappointing, to say the least.
