Power out for nearly 800 DTE Energy customers in Ann Arbor, Saline area

By Cindy Heflin

Storms knocked out power for mearly 800 customers of DTE Energy in Washtenaw County this morning.

Three main areas are affected by the power outage, according to DTE’s power outage map, two on the west side of Ann Arbor and one south of Saline.

Nearly 300 customers lost power just after midnight west of I-94 on the west side of Ann Arbor. Another 152 customers in an area along Miller Avenue bounded roughly by Arborview Boulevard to the south and Red Oak Road to the north lost power about 7 a.m. this morning. Meanwhile, 334 customers lost power about 5:30 this morning south of Michigan Avenue and north of Willow Road south of Saline.

DTE spokesman Scott Simons said 4,000 DTE customers are without power throughout DTE’s service area in southeast Michigan. It’s too early to predict when power might be restored. That will depend on what the weather does the rest of the day, he said.

The forecast calls for numerous showers this morning, then it will turn partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Forecasters expect the high temperature to be in the low to mid-80s

Size of the storm has nothing to do with it,It only takes one lightening strike in the wrong place to put the power out.The ones complaining about DTE are probably the same ones that wouldn't let them cut the trees.

Our power finally went back on at about 3:50 pm. It took DTE a little over 15 hours. No tornado. No blizzard. A small thunderstorm. A small number of homes in a small area, and it took 15 hours. What can we expect when there is a real storm? Or a big outage. DTE is not ready for much. It's time for someone from city, county or state government to do an investigation or hold hearings. Forget our neighborhood - think about the community at large when we get a real storm. DTE's excuses aren't enough. They can't be trusted.

BTW, the big July storm was about as big as they get around here - it set some records that won't be surpassed for awhile. Like 6" of rain in 12 or so hours, in some parts of A2.

Don't know where you guys live, but some on the west side of town got 2-3" of rain in a couple of hours. I was surprised by how windy and violent this storm was in my neighborhood, just west of downtown on Huron - thought I might lose power, but never did. Didn't lose it during the big July storm, either. But DTE replaced many lines and transformers around here a few years ago, after we did lose power several times.

You are correct. there's no excuse. They are only conerned about stockholders...not customers.

DTE is simply a terrible utility. No surprise the power went out in a heavy rain. It can go out with far less meteorological activity than last night.

As one of the DTE customers north of Miller w/o power starting around 7am, I'd like to add that to your list of outages. We saw a power line down on Miller just west of Red Oak. A hook'n'ladder firetruck was across the street to insure no vehicle would pass.

Yes, a less than impressive average t-storm passes through and 4,000 people lose power and there's no estimate of repair time. This seems to be the DTE standard.

The power outages have become so frequent that our bank had to spend $40,000 on a backup natural gas fired power generator just so we can be assured of having power to serve the public. Clearly DTE isn't doing their job properly and political intervention IS required.

Raining buckets it did. Severe winds and tornados...it didn't.

"A less than impressive average t-storm passes through and 4,000 people lose power and there's no estimate of repair time" Maybe the storm wasn't that bad on your side of town. On the West Side it rained buckets! I was looking on the wxyz.com weather tracker and the color of the storm going over my house was pink and purple, usually it is green and dark green.
