A puppy was stolen Monday from a yard in the 1500 block of East Forest Avenue in Ypsilanti Township, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.
The 6-week-old pit bull-bull mastiff mix named "Midnight" was wearing a red collar with a black name tag attached, a sheriff's department incident summary said.
Deputies do not have any suspects in the incident, which was reported at 11 a.m.
A photo of the puppy is expected to be released later today.

I can't imagine what's in store for this poor puppy.

it's a pit bull-bull mastiff mix...if there are fighting rings in the area, it will be trained for that. Amazes me that some men need to bolster their "shortcomings" with a large breed dog

If no one saw anyone do it, how do they know that it was stolen and that it didn't just squeeze under the fence? And who leaves a 6 week old puppy unattended outside? Sounds fishy.

Murf have you ever seen a mastiff? they are huge dogs as puppy's and as it mixed with a Pit it would not have just squeezed under the fence. As for that dog it is probably going to be in a fighting ring and will never be normal again

The Humane Society of Huron Valley microchips dogs. If you have another service, like shots, it only costs $25. I will never have a dog again without the microchip. Even if someone steals the dog from your yard, if it is chipped and they take it to a vet, they scan all animals and will find out it belongs to someone else. People steal small dogs and cats and use them to train their fighting dogs. There are pitbulls across the street fromm me-6 actually when you are only allowed 4 dogs in Ypsilanti Township. These dogs are a menace. They get out and terrorize people around here. They bark all the time and the smell is unbelievable. I NEVER leave my little dog out in the yard unless I am watching it. I am sure the authorities know where these fighting dogs are at and it seems nothing is done about them.

not enough information to make all these assumptions - no reason is given in the story for why the dog was reported stolen as opposed to missing. no fence is mentioned in the story - actually, no details are mentioned at all. i know these things are possible, but it bothers me that everyone is so quick to fill in the details themselves and imagine the worst.

I wouldn't doubt that there is a fighting ring going on somewhere around Ypsi. I have a friend who just had her pit bull stolen out of her front yard in Ypsi too. I don't know if she reported it to the police, but all of a sudden the dog was gone, and her coller was on the ground in the street. People are sick.

How many puppies/dogs leave the yard, get lost or are taken each year in Washtenaw County? Why do we not see headline news?
I understand trying to "get the word out" in the event someone found it or knows of someone who co-incidently turned up with a "new" dog, but who decides which dogs are a news story or not?
I'm sure that HVHS would love to see this type of public announcement for lost pets. I wouldn't mind either. Just wondering what makes it news - Ypsi? Pit Bull? Is it more endangered due to the possibility of fighting activity or perhaps some folks strong dislike of pit bulls?
