Rain will continue throughout Monday, thunderstorms possible

By Kyle Feldscher

It’s going to be a rainy night in Ann Arbor, as the rain that’s been falling since this morning looks set to continue and thunderstorms possible in the area.

According to the National Weather Service, up to a quarter of an inch of rain is possible this afternoon as storms move through the area. Wind speeds could get up to 18 miles per hour and hail is possible, according to forecasters.

Overnight, the showers and thunderstorms will likely continue, but the wind will calm down. Another quarter of an inch of new rain fall is possible overnight, the NWS predicts.

The rain should peter out throughout Tuesday, with just a 30 percent chance of rain and partly sunny skies forecasted. The high should be about 72 degrees, according to NWS.

It's been thundering continuously here in Dexter township for the last 15 minutes. It finally started to rain some but the thunder continues. I have never heard anything like this in my whole life. Strange. Uh oh here comes a torrent!!! 6:52 pm....whew!

We've had about 1.5" here in Scio Twp. You can see total a rainfall map at,%20MI&map.x=400&map.y=240&scale=1.000&centerx=400&centery=240&showlabels=1&rainsnow=1&lightning=1&lerror=20&num_stns_min=2&num_stns_max=9999&avg_off=9999&smooth=0. I don't see anything over 1.5".

Jeff, while I don't have a specific rain measuring device I do have things that catch rain in my garden. I was guessing that at my Scio Twp home we had well over an inch so your 1.5 seems spot on to me.

I had over 3 inches showing in my rain gauge just from today. It's usually accurate, but could be wrong. Anyone else had anything like that? I do know it was pouring very hard for a while this p.m. before stopping.

OK, we're at three quarters of an inch so far, so I'd say the NWS might want to reconsider their forecast.

Thanks for the update. I am looking forward to it as I love rain, thunder, lightning, and puddles.

I like the sound of the rain on the roof. It saves watering, and everything looks so fresh after. A good book and shawl in the sunroom would be nice.
