Resident credited with stopping thefts in Northfield Township

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Northfield Township police are crediting a resident with helping officers identify a thief and stopping a crime in progress.

Police say a resident in the 7000 block of Earhart Road saw a suspicious turquoise Ford Ranger pull into a driveway on Aug. 6. When he approached the vehicle, the driver fled the area.

The resident then noticed the same vehicle in the driveway of a home down the street and interrupted a theft in progress, reports said. The resident gave a good description of the driver and vehicle, which helped officers identify a suspect, reports said.

Police commended the resident for recognizing the vehicle didn't belong in the area and getting a good description of the thief.

The case remains under investigation, and no further details were released.

Turquoise vehicles probably not the best transportation for would-be burglars.

I second Ricebrnr's sentiments! More of us have to be willing to do this sort of thing to help keep crime in check. Having said that it won't be long until we will see post saying there was no reason for the resident to suspect anything just because he did not recognize the vehicle!
